KEMBAS 2010 - post ride

My First Touring
I was tempted the moment BC shared his plan on touring trip up to Ipoh. My touring plan year 2008 to Langkap didn't materialised when 1 of us had last minute job commitment.

I was contemplating either to setup bare frame Shogun up or just fit the pannier rack on Kona. Kona had all the necessary tabs for fitting the pannier however had a little issue with protruding rear brake's caliper. Issue that can only be solved by getting disk brake type pannier rack on which I'm not so keen to invest since touring isn't going to be like a monthly event for me.

2 days before the D day, a kind gestures from Shaque in form of seatpost mount pannier rack was a perfect solution since I wasn't planning an overnight. I deciced to use shallow tread knobbie tyres as to avoid pinch flat situation.

The D Day
I left for BC's house about 0630h before heading to Greenwood, Gombak. From there, 3 touring cyclists, 1 escort cyclist & 1 motocyclist heading Bandar Tasik Putri. After 38km, 2 hours later we were greeted by BBB team and led to makan place for a breakfast. From there, we headed to Kuala Selangor via Kampung Kuantan. My sit bones started to develop pain as we approaching Kampung Kuantan. While the pain can be cured with few minutes break, it didn't last for more than 10km for another break. I was on and off the saddle a number of time till I reached Hutan Melintang (20km away from Teluk Intan) when the pain become unbearable. Wife was willingly fetched me there to her kampung in Langkap. In short, it was fun but I was under prepared and under estimate what a flat terrain can be.

We love shortcuts!

We, Malaysian loves shortcuts. The faster we get to our destination, the better. Some go to the extend of stepping on other people's toes or even putting risk to himself and other people's life.

This entry is about losing all the fats is summary for the lazy ass who expect miracle result. It is from cyberfren Sher Khan (check the link on right side).

Here's a quick tips to shave off the fat(typical malaysian diet):
- go slow with the bad and ugly fats - the
saturated fat and trans-fat (avoid if you
can) - that means, go slow on full cream
dairy products, red meat, anything cook
with refined cooking oil, fast-foods, deep
fried foods - yes those fried chickens, ikan
goreng, pisang goreng, popia goreng,
karipap, keropok, kerepek ubi etc etc etc.

- move from refined carbohydrates to
complex carbohydrates - white rice to
brown rice, white bread to wholegrain
bread, white potatoes to sweet potatoes,
white pasta to wholegrain pasta, roti canai
to capati, no bihun/kuehteiow/laksa
(processed).

- take lean protein like chicken (without
skin), fish, nuts and seeds.
stick with plain water only - no teh tarik,
carbonated drinks, teh ais limau, kopi tarik,
milo, etc

- last but not least ... you think i'll skip this
one?.. pls do regular exercise!! ( no time?
see this)

Fun does not have to be expensive

501 trail

I took my daughter (Atiqah) to FRIM on Saturday for MTB outing. It had been a while since we had our first MTB hash outing. She was panting (and maybe swearing) along Bukit Hari towards Steroid. Good news is, she is looking forward for another outing in near future.
Entrance Fee - RM6

Izzah going strong heading to Canopy Walk

Haziq after gaining his confidence

The following day, the whole family (minus Irfan) went for trekking and canopy walk in FRIM. Atiqah and Izzah had no problem with height on the canopy walk. Haziq on the other hand had a bad start and apparently gained his confidence. The ending at small river stream was satisfying for Haziq and Izzah.
Entrance Fee - RM6
Canopy Walk - RM12
