Muflis di Akhirat

Dari Abu Hurairah r.a., bahawa Nabi s.a.w., bersabda: "Tahukah kamu siapakah dia orang Muflis?

Of indelible ink or biometric system?

MM: What has hindered the EC from implementing cleaning the electoral roll, reforming postal balloting, use of indelible ink, and minimum 21 days campaigning period?

EC Deputy Chairman:  .... With regards to indelible ink, it is used among countries which have no identification system, such as Africa and India. They have not reached our level yet. We only have 12 million voters. Why should we turn our system backwards when we have reached this level of technological advancement? The reason there is a push for the use of indelible ink is due to fear of double-voting, but we have an adequate system to handle voter identification and it is nearly impossible for people to register twice ....

Full Q&A

Reading this part of the Q&A made me recall an urban legend closely related to the above situation.

At the height of the space race, the Americans and Soviets approached the same problem: how an astronaut (or cosmonaut) could use a pen to write in zero gravity.
As the story goes, the Americans spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on an ambitious, gravity-immune ballpoint pen; they successfully developed such a pen; and this pen went on to become a massive commercial success in the private sector. The Soviets - with the simple elegance their scientists are so rightly famed for - opted instead to use a pencil.

Ulu Gombak traverse (2011 version)

From Ulu Gombak traverse 22/5/11

Me, Jazlan and Johan had a ride in RRI apparently Ulu Gombak traverse popped-up.  Me & Jazlan wanted to pay a tribute to Kelolo since he rode with us (me, Jazlan and Megat Faiz) in 2008 but had to turned back since we can't get thru those bamboo bushes.  Subsequent ride on 20/4/2008 with Joe Adnan managed to complete the loop via new track (no write-up, just photos).

I had another ride here on 21/6/2008 upon request from fellow friends, in much larger group (at least 10 of us).

This time around, here's my short write-up..

Trailhead that was on rubber plantation (in 2008) was no longer there.  Good reception GPS receiver with spare batteries and this tracklog is a must-have for this trail.  (good reception mobile phone may not works in heavy canopy forest).

Caution from Joe Adnan:
If you plan to ride this trail, please be careful and sensible. It’s a jungle out there. (Heh.) Seriously, the jungle goes all the way to Pahang to the North-East and Negri Sembilan in the South. If you lose your bearings, follow the river downstream*, and it should lead you to the confluence of the Sleh and Klang rivers and thereafter the Klang Gates lake itself.
My recommendation is as follows: Use one of the newer Garmin GPS receivers with an “x” at the end of its name. Print the directions below. Get the recommended map. Use a compass. Keep a look out for the tape.

For safety reason, please inform nearest Police station that your riding this route and your expected time to complete. You are require to acknowledge them once you completed, else they may send a rescue team.

Ulu Gombak Traverse 22 May 2011 at EveryTrail

The Story by Jazlan Yatim (source: http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=1106074):The ride was made by Dino, Riza, Johan, Nabil & Jazlan out of sheer enthusiasm for nature and mountain biking... and ignorance towards how itchy leech bites can give you for a week or two.
Departed at 8.00am from Masjid Sg Pusu, reached Kemensah 2.30pm.

Sg Pusu > Kem Ketanga, the old trailhead has disappeared by some development work, managed to find it above a small hill to the right up. From there the trails are as good at it gets.

Kem Ketanga > Kem Ulu Sleh are still nice single tracks too.

Kem Ulu Sleh > Kem Sleh - hike bike and river crossings, Riza and Johan trekked their way to reach back to the existing trails, thanks dudes! Thought so before the ride that we'd need rescuing along the way... We missed passing by the old dam.

Kem Sleh > Kemensah, midway trails were rutted with water patches and by motorcross users.

I looked around for it, but only found 1 tree marker made by JoeAdnan in 2008, but it was already on the
ground.... My tracklogs here also include waypoints marked by JoeAdnan. Thanks JoeAdnan for the waypoint reference : http://joeadnan.blogspot.com/2008/07/ulu-gombak-traverse-revisited-again.html

Back on saddle

Been a while I spent a good MTB ride.  FRIM is good but lack of distance.  RRI is just nice for me, a little more distance (26km) and a roller coaster to enjoy not forgetting the fall I had during this ride (pix below).. and those other falls: -
1. First endo (2007)
2. Elbow punched my ribs (2008)
3. Scuffed my ankle (2010)

From RRI on BASH route

It was a nice ride, lead by Jazlany.  We already talking about doing the Ulu Gombak Traverse in near future.

Merokok itu hukumnya haram

Semalam, waktu menikmati makan malam, Haziq bertanya pada Ayah.
"Ayah. Ayah hisap rokok lagi ke?"

Ayah: "Tak. Ayah sudah berhenti. Merokok itu hukumnya haram"
Haziq: "Tapi.. Tok tu hisap rokok"

Malah kaedah Islam menyebut : "Ad-Darar Yudfa' Bi Qadaril Imkan" ; ertinya : "Kemudaratan hendaklah ditolak sedaya upaya dan kemampuan" (Al-Madkhal Al-Fiqhil ‘Am, Syeikh Mustafa Az-Zarqa, 2/992)

Car Audio that works for me

The original audio set that came with the car was with MP3 decoder.  It plays MP3 files on CD until one fine day, the CD stuck and refuse to come out.  I was longing for headunit that takes flash drive over USB but the price wasn't within my budget.  Alternatively, I looked for headunit that has Auxiliary input (this input takes typical 3.5mm audio jack) and I found 1 dirt cheap model by Sony.

Sony CDX-GT180 (see here

Cost me RM188 plus another RM20 for installation.  With this Auxiliary input, I can hook-up my phone and play MP3 files with the sound routed to the car audio system.  Shall voice call comes in, I can answer the phone and talk normally, handsfree!  Once the voice call ends, the MP3 will resume.  Even GPS navigation from Nokia E63 (with external Bluetooth GPS receiver) can be heard loud and clear.

Blackberry anyone?

I never imagine myself as a BlackBerry user. Never crossed my mind to own it (especially with my own money).  It was for a reason which I strongly believed that without that 'integration server', the BlackBerry won't be a 'smart' after all. I didn't even bother to dig further on it's capabilities over other smartphone until some of us in the company was issued with BlackBerry Curve 3G (BB 9300).

Before I'm getting my review on this phone, let's see my perspective of some brand: -
1. Nokia (series 60, Symbian OS. Particularly E63 and C5-00)
- Can install Garmin Mobile XT which has an extensive and regularly updated map (C5-00 with integrated GPS receiver, not in E63).
- Abundant freeware, namely SportTracker, a very useful sport tracking software making use of GPS.
- Widely use thus, borrowing a charger at someone's else office is a non-issue.
- No driver required for ready to use 'thumb drive', just don't forget the data cable.
- C5-00 has charging capabilities over USB port, E63 not supported.
- Geotagging camera (C5-00)

2. Sony Ericsson (K800i, W810i)
- PC remote control over bluetooth. And this is native software. Picture this.. long before Steve Jobs flipping a powerpoint presentation with his iPhone, Sony Ericsson did it already.
- Awesome camera quality (K800i).
- Plactic battery? Lithium Polymer battery was used in Sony Ericsson since I owned R520m in 2002.
- R520m has proximity switch which turn off the speakerphone once you took the phone close to your ear.  The switch also 'snooze' the alarm when you wave your hand over it. A practical feature that I can't find in other phone to date.
- Charging capabilities over data cable (USB).

3. HTC/Dopod O2 (Specifically O2 Mini)
- Touchscreen, I like handwriting (graffiti) input most.
- Larger screen than candy form phone.
- Won't receive voice call if you are tethering putting an end to this phone.

4. BlackBerry Curve 3G
- High accuracy GPS receiver (up to 2m! Nokia C5-00's best is at 5m).
- Consolidated messages in single view (Tweeter, BBM, email, RSS, Facebook notification, Gtalk, Yahoo Messenger, MSN and many more).
- Optical trackpad reduces thumb fatigue compares to Nokia E63 & C5-00.
- QWERTY input.
- Seamless sync for Contacts and Calendar on Google (I like this most. Slightly harder to make it work on Nokia E63).
- Geotagging camera (requires some tweak to make it tag on the right place).
- Tracking my exercise using GPS receiver.
Downside
- Won't receive voice call and even SMS if you are tethering and in the middle on downloading big file.
- Must subscribe BIS or BES in order make full use of it else it's just a merely oversize phone that do voice call and SMS (other non-network related application may work except GPS).  Be extra careful on data subscription, some charge high rate after you exceed the limit, while other just throttle you down.

- Hooking up standard 3.5mm headphone won't let you answer the phone using the speaker phone. The caller's voice not routed to the headphone (Nokia C5-00 and E63 work this way, thus coupling with car stereo that accept auxiliary input is a bless, later post on this matter).

GPS enabled sport tracking freeware, yet to be tested.

Previously I use this freeware for sport tracking

Conclusion
While the features is not unique (i.e. only BlackBerry can do this), at the price I'm getting it (i.e. company's phone) I like it for what it can do for me.  I subscribed to tweeter for traffic updates, RSS on local and global news and some blog that I follow.  My final say for friends & family out there, ask yourself what you need from the phone, not what the phone can give you.

Should Muslim girls observe hijab from a young age?

An article excerpts from Parenthots.

Hijab in short is cover the entire body except for the face and hands

Haza Zean had wrote it better definition of Purdah, Hijab, and Niqab here.

Associate Professor Dr Tuti Ningseh Mohd Dom said
1. One becomes accountable for one’s own actions upon reaching puberty thus would be preferable if she gets used to it way before she gets her first menses
2. Parents are the best people to provide this sort of guidance for their children
3. A Muslim is someone who willingly submits to Allah and obeys all His commandments
4. A girl should only do it for the sake of Allah. This is not possible if she has not learnt of His love and how to love Him.

A commentator Shammy said
1. And as a muslim, first and foremost, explicit ibadah as such must be followed without question.
2. Like any other good habits, hijab should be nurtured from a young age and also should be lead example by the adults in her life
3. Children are our amanah in this world, and as parents we are obligated to teach them Islam.

Thin blue line

Beberapa hari sebelum ceramah Ustaz Kazim Elias di Hulu Kelang.

Suami: Kenapa?

Isteri: Dah dekat waktu saya nak datang bulan ni.
Suami: Awak doa la dilambatkan sikit.

Beberapa hari selepas ceramah Ustaz Kazim Elias.
Isteri: Bang, alhamdulillah dapat dengar ceramah Ustaz Kazim hari tu. Tapi kan bang, lambat betul pulak dia datang bulan ni.
Suami: Ohh..
Suami: InsyaAllah, esok balik kerja nanti saya belikan.

Jadinya, pregnancy test kit dah buat, urine test pun buat beberapa hari selepas tu.  Sah, mengandung anak ke-5.  Alhamdulillah.

Moral of the story: Doa biar clear :)

Sembilan Cara Mendapat Ketenangan

Dari ceramah Ustaz Kazim Elias bertajuk Nabi Ibrahim Berhujah Dengan Namrud

Sembilan Cara Mendapat Ketenangan: -
1. beriman

Ash-Shura

Lelaki A: Assalamualaikum.
Tuanpunya bengkel: Waalaikumusalam.

Tuanpunya bengkel: Laa.. Rugilah abang. Abang insured RM2,000 abang claimlah pakai resit RM2,200 tu.

Rakan saya Faizullah berbaju melayu warna kundang (purple).

Moga roh Allahyarham dicucuri rahmat.

How I Came to Love the Veil - Yvonne Ridley

Politicians and journalists just love to write about the oppression of women in Islam ... without even talking to the females beneath the veil.
They simply have no idea how Muslim women are protected and respected within the Islamic framework which was built more than 1400 years ago.
Yet, by writing about cultural issues like child brides, female circumcision, honor killings and forced marriages they wrongly believe they are coming from a point of knowledge. more

British-born, award-winning journalist Yvonne Ridley is well known in the Muslim world for her outspoken views and defence of Islam. She endeared herself to the Muslim community in Britain when she reverted to Islam 30 months after making international headlines when she was captured by the Taleban on an undercover assignment in Afghanistan. more

Assalamualaikum Tuan
Penjelasan mengenai Hadis tersebut
Ia di kategori kan sebagai Palsu.
Maaf jika terasa. Saya amat sayangkan kamu sebagaimana saya sayangkan diri saya.
Dan dibalas kembali oleh Si A,
OK...Terimakasih tuan.

Lokasi: Masjid Al-Azim, Pandan Indah.
Waktu: Selepas solat Maghrib

Mobile computing

While waiting for the car going through the regular 10,000km interval service, I took out my company issued notebook and resume my work from where I left it moment before that.

With weekly subscription of mobile broadband, I do teethering from my notebook. When space was limited, some little thing become a concern, like how or where to put the phone.
Between the leg and notebook?

Coz it gives warning..

A conversation took place not too far and not too long ago.

X has gone through the firewall rules and he become puzzled on some of them.  Desperately need clarification, he consulted Y, the firewall administrator.

X: Why do you need this particular rule that allow these IP addresses access to the Firewall itself?
Y: Ohhh.. that's one of the standard rules by the manufacturer for maintenance purpose.
X: Do you really need this rule that allow maintenance from a few segments?
Y: I can't remove or edit that. Every time I tried, it gave warning message.
X: Huh? What was the message?
Y: "Do you want to proceed?"

At that juncture, X was not sure to either laugh, educate or keep everything to himself.

The Contender?

Seriously, I don't know how should I put this.  Coming up with a title for this post already a fuss.

I came across this on my way back home yesterday.  I didn't notice it the day earlier so guess it was just put up by someone or some authority within the compound of the temple.

Jumping into the bandwagon

Heard about DSLR?  To a point if you throw a coin at Central Market, high chance it will fall on a person will DSLR on his hand.  I was using Nikon F50 at one point of time but not for long due to 1997 financial crisis.

I was looking for a digital camera to replace my current Canon A520.  It has to be light, easy to carry around, simple to use and has big aperture.  All will suit the main purpose of taking photographs on my MTB outing.  Joe Adnan has always been inspirational for me to take better photo.

Beberapa detik dahulu

Aku terdengar A berbual dengan B keluar sebaik keluar dari surau selepas solat Asar.

A: Haji masuk wad minggu lepas?
B: Betul
A: Sakit apa tu?
B: Jantung. 3 tersumbat.
A: Pelik saya. Haji saya tengok makan jaga, petang-petang jogging.
